In 2008 I completed my BSc degree with first class Honours at Flinders University under the supervision of Prof. Jim Mitchell. Since 2008 I have been a PhD candidate in the School of Biological Sciences, Flinders University. My PhD thesis entitled, “The metagenomic signatures of impacted environments: Unravelling the microbial community dynamics in ecosystem function” was awarded the Vice Chancellors Award of Doctoral Thesis Excellence in 2014.

I am currently a Postdoctoal Research Fellow in the Microbial Systems Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Jim Mitchell. My main area of research is focused on the microbiology of groundwater. More specifically we are using modern molecular and enumeration techniques to understand how microbes interact with each other and their environment. The overall objective of the project is to gain a better understanding of how microbes influence the overall health of the groundwater ecosystem.
